Providing Assistance to Military Families

In August 2006 through a nearly $1.5 million donation,
Wal-Mart and SAM’s Club Foundation partnered with
Sesame Workshop to produce Talk, Listen, Connect a
military outreach project. The nearly 400, 000 kits are
bilingual and contain a DVD and online print materials
to help children adjust to the three stages of deployment
and various stresses of military life. The kits are distributed
for free and available at

Helping Communities Reach Out to Our Troops
Many communities across the U.S. are passionate about showing support to our troops serving overseas. In 2005 Wal-Mart and Kodak joined the America Supports You Team to do just that. From mid October through Veterans Day our customers are able to bring a photo of their veteran to their local Wal-Mart store. Each customer will receive one 3 ½ X 5 and two wallet sized photos of their veteran. A 5 X 7 of the photo will then be placed on a Wall of Honor in the store so that the entire community can know of the sacrifices made by the man or woman has served or is serving our country. During this time our stores will also have on display a Message Book for Troops. These books can be filled with words of hope, encouragement and support for all that these men and women provide us. Once these books are full they will be delivered by the VFW Foundation to troops serving overseas. Troops receive books from their surrounding communities which help them feel a little closer to home when they are so far away.
