Jacob Lawson

If you are visiting this web site and reading this article then it stands to reason that you and I have love for our country, love for the members of our armed forces and love for the Blue Star Mothers of America. We as adults have many different loves in our lives and many different reasons for these loves, but to see these same loves illuminated from a 10 year old young man is heartwarming beyond words.

Jacob Lawson, grandson of Blue Star Mother associate member, Peggy Eubanks, wanted to participate in the Kenton Elementary variety show they call “Puttin’ on the Kids”. He chose to sing Toby Keith’s song “American Soldier”. He not only sang the song, but also put on a marvelous show dressed in camouflage and using the flags of our four main branches of the military. Anyone who knows Jacob knows that he gives his all to whatever he sets out to do with energy and enthusiasm beyond belief. His performance was loudly applauded by all in attendance and he received a standing ovation from many in the crowd, especially the men. Jacob’s family is extremely proud of their young entertainer.

Jacob has been one of our most supportive Blue Star Youth Ambassadors since his grandmother brought him to help with packing boxes for our first shipment to the troops. He marched in our first parade, not even caring that it was raining cats and dogs. He keeps asking, “When are the Blue Star Mothers going to have another parade?” He went door to door in Grandma’s neighborhood asking for donations for the troops. At Christmas time we wanted cards and letters to enclose in our boxes so Jacob went on the computer, set up a card with his picture and a message to the troops and printed 150 copies so there would be one for every box we mailed. He has been there to help each time we have sent boxes and was awarded a Kentucky Colonel commission for his efforts in supporting the Blue Star Mothers of Northern Kentucky Chapter 5. I’m sure Jacob will be at the next parade, box packing and be a participant in anything where support, energy and enthusiasm are needed.

I am very proud to be a part of watching Jacob growing up and it is my prediction, as the editor of this article, that someday we will see this young man’s name listed as a leader in our community, our state and yes, very possibly, our nation.
